Apache problem in Fedora Core 9

I installed the default apache version in the Fedora Core 9 installation.
I started the apache httpd service and tried to open "http://localhost" but it gives the following error:
Quote:

"Error: The requested URL could not be retrieved"
"Connection to 127.0.0.1 Failed"
The system returned:

(111) Connection refused

The remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again.

Your cache administrator is webmaster.

I don't why i am getting this error inspite of the fact that httpd is running. Any ideas?

ah, the problem was resolved. I had configured the browser (Firefox) to use a proxy without specifying the exception of localhost.

i am facing some more problems:

1) I have started the FTP daemon i.e. vsftpd but remote users (on LAN) are not able to ftp to my server
2) I have started the VNC service but remote users (on LAN) are not able to connect to my server
3) Users can't connect through WinSCP too.

I had faced similar problems with Fedora Core 4 earlier.

Firewall perhaps?

oh yeah, u go it right. The default Fedora firewall blocks everything. I allowed the ftp and samba services in the firewall and it's working now.
The only problem remaining is VNC now. I am unable to connect to my Linux machine through Windows using VNC viewer. It gives the following error:
Quote:

"Unable to connect to host: A socket operation was attempted to an unreacheable host. (10065)

I am having the same problem like you.

Please post the steps you used to solve the problem

Thanks in advance

I don't know the exact problem. But you can try to disable the firewall and SELinux completely. You can disable both from the System->Administration menu. It worked on my machine but doesn't work on 2 more machines in my LAN. It might be a network problem too if the IPs from where you are trying to access your HTTPD server is not on same subnet. So make sure that you are able to ping your HTTPD server from the client machine.

This problem comes only in Fedora...everything works in Ubuntu by default, so you can try using Ubuntu too.

Thanks for the reply

I was also able to do it now. I checked the www(HTTPD) in the firewall after that i restarted the httpd service

Then it worked...

Thanks a lot for your time...

Now i am having a problem with DHCPD configuration

If you have any idea about that please help me...

Thanks in advance

nice to hear that httpd worked. For DHCP you should check out "Network" option in the Administration menu. You should be able to setup DHCP options.
