All updates reported as 0KB and do not have valid GPG signatures. What's wrong?
I am completely new to Linux and until yesterday knew absolutely nothing about it. First of all, I installed Red Hat 9, and everything was grand. Any problems I had with it probably came from me knowing nothing of Linux. So I decided to upgrade to Fedora, and I am typing to you now through Mozilla on the Linux system. So it works that much.
So I went to update to the latest releases using up2date, which gets its information from two channels. Under RH9, only 1 channel was used, and I had no problems with it. But all updates on Fedora are reported as 0KB in size. I thought this might be a small bug and went ahead anyway. For every package I get the same error:
The package ????? does not have a valid GPG signature. It has been tampered with or corrupted. Continue?
I normally use Windows, and this was similar to the installation errors on XP where it warns you that the program/device driver has not been certified, but 99% of the time still works, so I selected "Continue". Then I get the following error:
There was a fatal RPM install error. The message was:
There was an RPM unpack error. Installing the package ??????
What am I doing wrong? Is there any information I should have to help me "get" the Linux concept? I am normally quite technically minded, but I can't seem to figure this out at all.
Thanks for any help
Which repositories are you using for your updates and have you imported their GPG keyfiles? Download the keyfiles and:
rpm --import /path/keyfile
I figured it out. I was trying to hook up to the Red Hat Network with Fedora, so I edited the file with the web addresses and directed it to Ireland instead. Everything's grand now!
I'm having similar issues with Core 4, and am new to Linux. Can you please clarify what you mean when you said you "directed it to Ireland". If you can, can you please post the complete URL, and any instructions/tips/tricks you may know of.
Many thanks in advance.
