After update - no keyboard in root, blank boot.log

After an automatic update from 2.6.13-1.1369_FC4 to 2.6.13-1.1532_FC4 I have lost the use of the keyboard in root. It works fine for ordinary users. Also the boot.log ended with the update session. I reset it and now it just stays blank. The boot backup files end with the update session.
For the Keyboard I have deleted the root/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard folder and have re-created on re-boot with no luck, replacing the keyboard folder with one from a user didn't help either.

Any Ideas anyone?
Thanks
