adding K7 support to kernel

I just checked the config kernel file in the /boot directory and assume that specific K7 support is not activated.

CONFIG_M686=y
CONFIG_MK7 is not set

Is this a correct assumption?

I am in no particular hurry to activate this, but wld like to on the next kermel update.

Question is how to trick up2date into doing so!

Is it safe to assume up2date uses the existing kernel config file?
Can i therefore edit that config file before running up2date?

If you want K7 support you will probably have to compile your own kernel. Since you have the config all you have to change is that one option. When you do that you probably won't want up2date to automatically do that for you anymore. If Redhat does update your kernel after you add the K7 support you will loose it again. If redhat made their kernels optimized for the k7 that could keep some systems from working correctly. You can't optimize it for the k7 and 686. If they optimize for 686 then it will work on both systems.
