Question Adding items to xfce panel???

I have couple of questions. I am newbie to the Linux world, so excuse me if they sound stupid/funny

I have Fedora core 3 , which had kde runing. I wantd something faster so i switched to fxce(heard lot about it being sleaker/ faster). so ...

Q1. can i add or launch any app. which was available to me under KDE from xfce? if yes then how Although i have tried adding some apps like "firefox" succesfully. But how do i find commands/locations of other apps.( e.g XMMS does not lauch saying "no such file found").
Q2. If we install an app. through say KDE or Gnome, then are these apps. independent of the window managers meaning if i switch to another WM would they still be available to me? if yes then how?

I guess thats enough for now...Thanx in advance.

XFCE should be able to find KDE and GNOME apps and add them to your XFCE menu. I have noticed that is doesn't find all of them though, so you can manually add apps by editiong the menu (option is there somewhere in the XFCE options). Try entering the full path for programs when you add them to the xfce panel, e.g for xmms, try making a shortcut with a link to /usr/bin/xmms. I think by default XFCE should be configured to recognise XMMS as the default media player.
