a sudden xvid playback error

Hi all...

I have been watching movies and episodes on FC6 for a while now, until a few days ago, whenever I try to run a file, I get an xvid error.

(for example, in Totem it's: )

Code:

Totem could not play 'file:///media/Scrubs Season 4/s04e21 - My Lips Are Sealed.avi'.
Video codec 'XviD' is not handled. You might need to install additional plugins to be able to play some types of movies

And I have seen that episode before just fine...

Does anybody have an idea about what has happened?

PS. when I browse the CD, I do get a thumbnail icon of the video... doesn't it mean that it has read the file successfully to generate that thumbnail?

Have you updated totem or the codec package recently? This may cause apps to lose "sight" of the codecs and miss them on startup. You might also want to try and play it from the command line and see what response comes back. e.g.

foo@bar$ totem Scrubs.avi
