5.1 with AC'97 On Board Sound FC4
 

Hey guys! Just finished installing a FC4 box and got my dual monitors, mp3 playback and MPlayer compiled and working. Only problem I have now is that I have a 5.1 surround system and (predictably enough) the sound only comes out of 2 speakers. Like I said in the subject I have an AC'97 On Board chip and everything works perfectly in windows...

There are posts on these forums saying "Try speaker-test -D 6" etc etc. For me, that doesnt work at all - just hangs, and if I get anything from it its just errors about how the card cant be found etc. Obviously the drivers are installed properly (ALSA) coz music and sounds etc work perfectly in gnome so whats the problem? I'm so close to going out to PC World now and getting an old 5.1 SB card - I dont wanna go back to windows just to use my speakers!!!

Have you turned on your speakers? The settings should, I believe, be done with the alsamixer command-line command.
