3d support for radeon 9600 in fedora core 2

hi, i recently installed fedora core 2

now, my radeon 9600 works fine
but i installed a demo of ut 2004 to see if there's any 3d support that comes with the build-in radeonfb drivers that comes with the fedora package

i opened ut, there came the splashscreen, and it closes again

so obviously, it isn't supported

so what do i have to do now ,

do i have to install the ati drivers from the ati homepage (with the rpm --force code) ?

'cause i'm new at this whole linuxstuff

thx

I have the same issue - I am using FC2 and I install the game and run the exe file - I see the UT2004 splash page with a cool pinguin on the UT splash page and then it just closes before the nVidia part comes on...I think Linux sees that you dont have any ATI drivers installed and are using those built in mesa drivers so it just cax the application.

If you figure out how to install ATI drivers , please let me know.

it says, "Make sure you have kernel source package installed."

How do I know if I have this? Is there a way to see if my installation included this before I go on?

The source should be in /usr/src but you can also check it in the Package Management under kernel development.

Ok, i did it all and everything was fine, but I am not sure if it is working properly yet. Because when I click on the Ati icon that appeared on the menu, nothing happened! Besides that Tux Racer game is still too lagged and I have a Radeon 9600 Pro!

in konsole type fglrxinfo and post what the out come says...

It should read ATI Technoligies Inc.

I had the same issue using FC1 - I would click the ATI icon and it would spin for 30 secs and the disappear.
and I did not have the drivers installed right - I gave up and installed FC2 and now back to square one

I had installed the 3.9.0 version at first, but now I installed the 3.7.6 and when I click on the ATI icon, appear the following message:

Driver does not provide the FireGL X11 extensions!
Panel components will operate only partially.

What is that?? What I have to do to fix it? And the Tux Racer is still lagged!!
