2.6.10 upgrade - speedtouch 330 adsl - reboot - usbdevfs not supported by kernel

Hi People.

I have am using FC3.

I have been using the speedtouchconf script to install my speedtouch 330 ADSL USB modem. (see here http://speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net/)

It was working fine with the 2.6.9 kernel. I have recently upgraded my kernel to 2.6.10-1.741_FC3.

After reinstalling the script with the new kernel (as you always have to when you update kernels) it worked fine and I can connect, but after rebooting it is unable to connect.

I get the following message:-

[root@localhost init.d]# ./speedtouch start
Starting ADSL connection:mount: fs type usbdevfs not supported by kernel
[FAILED]

It used to be fine on reboot with the other kernel, the fact that it does work with 2.6.10 is good, does the new kernel handle USB differently?

At the moment I have to keep reinstalling the script after every reboot to get on the internet!

Any help would be good.

Cheers

I have found a solution for fedora core 3.

I reinstalled Fedora 3 (you can just uninstall the speedtouchconf driver)

Then used the following advice to use the kernel mode driver, i do not get long boot times waiting for the modem to connect now and I think I won't have to reinstall after a kernel update.

http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/

- look at the Fedora 3 instructions

- i have the silver rev 4 version so I used the ZZZL_3.012 file on the firmware extractor
