1024 OR 16 colors

Hi all,

It seems that I am able to use either a 1024x768 screen resolution OR 16 (thousands of) colors but not both. If I switch to the higher color it reverts back to the lower resolution and will not allow me to up it again.

I am using a 2MB Trident PCI graphics card that would not work at all on Debian but it sure would be nice to use 1024 AND 16 colors. Any ideas on how to possibly allocate more memory or another trick to make it work??

TIA,

Jimi_l

I'm fairly certain that the card is not able to do both, there simply isn't enough memory to do this. If you really want 1024X768X16, you could buy a new PCI card; e.g.

Sapphire Radeon 7000 32MB DDR TV-Out PCI Retail - £23.49 + Del from Ebuyer (QF 45579)

I don't think it's possible though to just shift over physical memory to your graphics card unless it was designed to do that (I think some OEM cheap PCs have graphics cards with "shared memory")

I really do think your best bet is to find a new PCI card from a friend or buy one...or even try Ebay, they may have some cheap PCI cards :) - go for a 8MB or so!

Good luck

Steve
