[FC6]Chipbench via Desktop Effects won't work
hi all,
here's chipbench in a nutshell of a nutshell:
ibm released software (emulator to be precise--as descibed by my mentor) to emulate powerpc processor (ppc405) under linux environment called ChipBench System Level Design.
ok, i think that's enough.
it is said that it runs under redhat 7.2, but since it is so outdated i rather choose fedora (start from redhat 9, FC4, FC5 and now FC6) than redhat 7.2.
as described by README-INSTALL files included, it requires me to install different qt (qt-x11-free-3.3.4) and choose it in order to run ChipBench rather than original qt that comes along within linux distribution. the difference arose when using FC4 and above. the windows look more roughly from other windows (like using 800x600 windows under 1024x768 resolution). ok it's allright as long as the program works. until FC6 it works fine after doing some tweaking.
i never playing with gnome-desktop before my friend show me what ubuntu 6.10 can do with its desktop. it's magic!!! almost like macosx. so i start to search what can i do with my FC6 and here it is, Desktop Effects, little link rest under Desktop Background. I never wondering what it use, but now, i can do switch between workspace like macosx do with its switch-user with extra 360degree-spin-effect. it also has macosx's Exposure-like effect. hmmm, there you go lots more reason to total migration from windows to linux.
but, bad thing happens when i'm using Desktop-Effects. my ChipBench works, but failed to emulate even simplest program. it seems there is a problem with rwppc startup. it took time beyond my startup-time definition. when Desktop-Effects re-disabled, the program works normal again. i'm not linux native and not a programmer, but my curiosity is high. so if anyone have any clues about what should i do, i'm very much open my hands.
regards.
