I'm doing okay with Xfce installed and not using it, but if I can avoid having something I don't really need installed, or remove/replace it.... umm, maybe I should kinda of errrumah...turns into a mumble and fades out slowly

Sorry for the confusion, chal.

As of right now, we have a 3.5rc4 Xfce .iso that's under 700MB for download. This is the standard Live CD.

You don't really need to install it. Running that as a Live CD, you can then run a provided shell script that generates a new DL3.5rc4-GNOME.iso

This GNOME .iso can then be burned to a DVD as the GNOME package itself is kinda large.
It's actually around 753MB and could fit on a 8cm 1.4GB DVD or on a regular-sized dvd.

Hi chal;
Due to the fact that we do not have our own maintained repos those scripts basically download required packages and build a new .iso file. This works even from Live CD.
As you all seem to like changing desks: final release will consist of the MKDistro remaster-tools, allowing you to burn your self-configured DL onto a Live CD.

Any Dreamlinux users here ?

I received the LQ newletter and discovered this, a DL forum here now... congratulations !

In DreamLinux land I am known as BakUp.

I know it won't last long, but I have more post here than Rich or Sg put together, can you imagine that ?

Welcome to the LQ forums

chal> Thanks again. That sounds good to me.

edit: Whoops! Got too enthusiastic. I don't have a DVD burner, so I may have to go with the default. That's actually working out pretty good. I was just trying to make it even better.

Hey man! Do you run backups here as well?

What do you call yourself over in Nascar land? :)

Using Dreamlinux 3.5-rc4 for several months now

and I'm very happy with it. The only problem is my PIII Coppermine laptop with its paltry 192MB of RAM. I selected Dreamlinux and Linux Mint based on these hardware constraints and both are performing admirably.

However, (and this is a big however) browsing is slow and crashes (with either Firefox or Opera) happen if I open too many (10 to 30) tabs. I'll probably trying bumping the RAM up to 768MB with three 256MB SoDIMMs from ebay.

I can't figure out how to switch Firefox profiles on Dreamlinux so I started a new topic here:

The notebook I use as a primary box has had a dedicated DL partition since version 2-something and I think it's a terrific laptop OS. If I ever fire up the tower for anything but an occasional bout of updating I'll put DL on it, too. My wife, everybody's Grandma, is still resisting a change on her laptop from PCLOS '07 but I'll convert her sooner or later.
I'll do what I can to be of service here, however, although I've been using Linux since the mid-90's, I could honestly still post "useResa's" little newbie smilies as my own.
Glad to see you getting established with this forum, guys. Thanks for a very, very good distro. Juzme

I found Dreamlinux while searching for an alternative to Damn Small Linux.
The 3.2 Desktop Live CD booted an ran without any problems. The Xfce desktop was great.
I am looking forward to the 3.5 final release which I will install to HDD and USB stick.
Being able to customize the distro and install it to USB with file persistance will be a dream come true.
I see a real future with Dreamlinux.

Hi guys;) I like you Laserman can't wait for the 3.5 version to be released....not long now.

I am not the best Xfce fan but created my Gnome iso as SgDreamer explains and it works great.

Only found Dreamlinux a short while ago...but was already certain that Dreamlinux is going places....

It is nice to be right about something occasionally...LOL

Great to meet a long-time DL Fan!
I'm sure you'd be able to convince your wife one day.

Thank you very much, Juzme for your offer to help out over here on DL's LQ home.

Evening all, nice to see DL gets it's own forum on LQ. Well deserved!

Hi Evreyone, I am a new Dream linux user. I especially like that it runs without problems on my older machines. Even my wife is not afraid to use it. Good Job. just one problem, how come I can not get openvpn to work. I have used openvpn in several other Debian based Distro's without problems.

Problem I have tried launching openvpn from the terminal as well as from within Network manager and still no go.. I have looked at the error logs and nothing looks out of the ordinary, no errors thrown. Just failed to continue working apparently.

Any advice out there.
