xserver-xorg under squeeze
hi
I cannot reinstall xserver-xorg under squeeze:
Code:
# aptitude reinstall xserver-xorg
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reading extended state information
Initializing package states... Done
Reading task descriptions... Done
The following packages will be REINSTALLED:
xserver-xorg
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 reinstalled, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 0B will be used.
E: I wasn't able to locate file for the xserver-xorg package. This might mean you need to manually fix this package.
Writing extended state information... Done
E: I wasn't able to locate file for the xserver-xorg package. This might mean you need to manually fix this package.
E: Internal error: couldn't generate list of packages to download
Howto solve this problem or where can I download xserver-xorg as a deb package?

http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/xserver-xorg
[btw: i couldnt figure out the difference between installing xserver-xorg and xorg yet, i usually install xorg]

I'd be interested to see what's in your /etc/apt/sources.list,it works just fine for me:
Code:
ade@Pc1:~$ aptitude -s reinstall xserver-xorg
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reading extended state information
Initializing package states... Done
Reading task descriptions... Done
The following packages will be REINSTALLED:
xserver-xorg
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 reinstalled, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 225kB of archives. After unpacking 0B will be used.
Would download/install/remove packages.

That all looks good to me.
Did you try aptitude update before trying to reinstall the package?.
You could also try a different mirror.

aptitude update is already done, but it doesn't help.
Which mirror should I try?

Just for example try:
Code:
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
Then try:
aptitude update
aptitude reinstall xserver-xorg

Glad to hear you worked it out.
When removing packages with aptitude you can use the command:
aptitude purge package
And then to remove any leftover files do:
aptitude purge ~c
It would also be a good idea to use the thread tools to mark this thread as solved.
