xscreensaver sonar.

I want to set up xscreensaver 4.21, But I want it wants me to install as root or something??, when I click the settings tab, and then the documentaion nothing opens. I searched on the internet and cant find step by step instructions?? I am very new to Debain 3.1 sarge. can anyone help me with this?

sonar can ping real network hosts and display the ping time as sonar data instead of creating random data. For this feature, you have to run it setuid (with root rights). You can savly say "no" here, the (sonar) screensaver will work nevertheless, but not with real ping data...

can you give some files on that? I need detailed docs on that.
