xorg monitor setup fresh install

Just did a new install on my desktop. Installed with net-install and upgraded to sid.
Installed the xserver (apt-get install xorg) but for some reason I can't fill out anything about my monitor. Runnig dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg asks about the graphics-card, the mouse, the keyboard and then writes the file.
Nothing about my monitor so X wont start. How to configure the monitor?

Regards

The graphics card entries should take care of the monitor. Try editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf ... change the video driver to "vesa" and see if that makes it work. Once you have some kind of Xserver going you can fight the video driver issue.

That worked. I looked up the refresh rates at Dell (P1110) and just edited the xorg.conf file as you suggested. I changed the driver to ati (thats what I have and I'll use module-assistant later for fglrx).
This got me going so I can get the rest up and running in the next hours.

Thanks!
