Xclock multiple loads upon login (debian & gnome)

Hi everyone,

xclock! upon asking a knowledgable friend to find a clock facility for linux, he pulled up xclock for me.

However, now I have the problem that whenever I login to X - automatically a bunch of xclock windows open up. This was ok when it was just one. Now enough open to fill up my entire screen couple of times over! Upon logging in to seek some help, I timed how long it opened up windows for - over two minutes!

I use debian and gome v1.4 - has anyone come across this before and have any ideas? It also opens up a terminal/file manager and Galeon automatically, but never multiple copies like this.

If anyone can help, please let me know, I'm reaching insanity levels here.

Thanks all. If this is a problem I should post on another forum please let me know. I'm so new to linux I don't know if this is a specific distro problem or... what.

Cheers!

Sarah

A quick hack to relieve the pain/symptons, doesn't fix the problem:
Code:
chmod -x /usr/bin/X11/xclock
If ran as root, takes execute access away, so xclock can't be started anymore. (chmod +x /usr/bin/X11/xclock puts the execute-access back).

Thanks for this - I eventually did some prodding about with Gnome settings and resolved the problem. However, I still have the problem of a few random applications starting automatically - one xterm and the file manager. I didn't do the install myself - which I now sort of regret as there's a lot I would have learnt (and a lot of hair pulled out) :)
