Oh
nflux is my idea of the fluxbox desktop across 3 distros; slackware current, debian squeeze, and ubuntu 10.04
all 3 are installable livecd/usb's

as I said I am uploading the new versions now, they will be ready by about 3-4PM EST

"no such file or directory for what?

are you running from livecd or installed debian?

do you have synaptic pkg manager installed?
apt-get install synaptic

are you talking about "no such file or directory for what?" for remastersys?

you gotta add remastersys repository to /etc/apt/sources.list

or

just grab the remastersys deb file here
http://www.geekconnection.org/remast...sitory/debian/

get the 2.0.18.1 one

then, go to where it downloaded to, usually /home/username/Downloads or desktop
then, open a terminal and install the deb with dpkg

first cd or change-directory
to where it is
example user name "ejames82"

cd /home/ejames82/Downloads
dpkg -i remastersys_2.0.18-1_all.deb

however, dpkg may or may not install the depends
best way is to first install gdebi pkg installer

apt-get install gdebi

then simply right-click the deb file and choose "open with Gdebi"
or itll say "open with other program"
and then when it opens find gdebi-gtk or gdebi in /usr/bin I think
gdebi will install all depends for remastersys

linus72,
i lucked out when installing xnest, squashfs-tools, and live-magic. i usually get "no such file or directory". so far everything is going smoothly. the screenshot was from installed ubuntu. i have two computers that i am currently dedicating toward this project.

as of right now, i am partitioning the hard drive that debian will go on. the remastersys page said to do that.
/dev/sda1 250mb /boot ext3
/dev/sda2 1.17G linux-swap
/dev/sda3 8.5G / ext3

it's a good thing i checked the thread. synaptic would help with the remastersys install wouldn't it?

thanks for the added info "get the 2.0.18.1 one" i'll be looking for that and downloading it, and installing it. unless you say otherwise, i'll leave the partitions as they are. i'll keep an eye on the thread.

problem installing gdebi:

"Package gdebi is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package gdebi has no installation candidate"

that's the exact copy/paste from terminal.

the synaptic is ok though. i have that. i'll look in synaptic for gdebi.

there was a problem with the dependencies. somehow i got into amess with the terminal. here's a screenshot.

it looks like i would be better off to restart the computer and start over, versus trying to clean up the mess.

by the way, the right-click method did work, but by that time it was too late. i had already botched things up.

it said i had a broken package. so can i:

1. fix the broken package.
2. get the needed dependencies and verify.

i'll wait on a reply from you before i do anything.
thanks. even though it's not going as i hoped, it's interesting anyway.

linus72,
i finally got remastersys. it is in the system>administration menu. there was a certain and exact procedure that i had to take to make it work. my inexperience at the terminal probably didn't help much.
once i got gdebi everything seemed to come together. even though i right-clicked on the package and opened with gdebi and waited for gdebi to "install" the package (i thought the installation was complete), i still had to go back and click on the package and use the gdebi package installer. this time it really was installed, but i am yet to use it.
maybe i'll give it a shot, since i have two cd decks. the worst that can happen is that i waste a cd.
thanks.

linus72,
it never did work. there were two functions that the remastersys program could have provided a benefit to me.

1. the backup program-i ran it so that it would make an iso but it stalled at 3%. i let it go overnight. it was still at 3%. no go.
2. remastersys installer-i had to do all kinds of experimentation to try to get this to work. finally, it ran through it's procedure, but when i rebooted there was "no operating system found".
