Wireless connection

In Debian "etch" I always need to introduce a WEP password in "network-admin" to get wireless connection.
Is it possible store that password and getting wireless connection on boot ?
I'm using a D-Link wireless card.
Thanks.

Hey,

The /etc/network/interfaces file is where the config information for network cards is stored. See the interfaces manual page (man interfaces), it gives more information.

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

netmask 255.0.0.0

# Wireless
auto eth2

allow-hotplug eth2

This should be your configuration in /etc/network/interfaces using the madwifi drivers and wireless-tools according to http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/Dis...eMadWifidevice

auto ath0
iface ath0 inet dhcp
wireless-essid wep.net
wireless-key 46f04863257ac8040905ea0002
Hope it helps. It is the same site I used as a reference for configuring a D-link card with wpa at boot.

I don't know if kwifimanager is a KDE app, I don't think so because it is in the networking section of Synaptic, not KDE, (if my memory serves me correctly). I don't have Gnome and have it installed, so not sure what's the scoop, nor do I use passwords as I only link to public networks so far. Check what buddy in the last post of this Ubuntu forum thread did to have an auto link to his wireless connection:
