Why kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686 ?
To be clear, I thought of asking a basic question. Since I have already installed kernel-2.6.8-2-686 and in /boot I see all four images -
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 55399 2005-05-19 14:21 config-2.6.8-2-686 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2005-12-07 22:50 grub -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4665344 2005-12-07 22:50 initrd.img-2.6.8-2-686 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 843026 2005-05-19 14:57 System.map-2.6.8-2-686 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1170965 2005-05-19 14:57 vmlinuz-2.6.8-2-686 Somewhere in one document of my project which I am starting with , it says to get - apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686. My questions is since I already have every thing in /boot, why I need again to do - apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686 I need to have my basic done first instead of crippling in problems latter. |
I don't understand. If you already have the 2.6.8-2-686 kernel then why do you think you need to install it again?
