Why debian has so many iso?

Debian-30r2-i386-binary-1 iso 586 Mb
Debian-30r2-i386-binary-1 NONUS iso 649 Mb
Debian-30r2-i386-binary-2 iso 646 Mb
Debian-30r2-i386-binary-3 iso 647 Mb
Debian-30r2-i386-binary-4 iso 644 Mb
Debian-30r2-i386-binary-5 iso 641 Mb
Debian-30r2-i386-binary-6 iso 643 Mb
Debian-30r2-i386-binary-7 iso 296 Mb

Does that mean I have to burn 8 CDs for debian?

both yes and no...

yes, if you only want to use the packages from the cd's, and no if you want to do a network install :)

You can download a network installer from www.debian.org/CD. It can be as small as 3 floppies. Then, as the installation moves forward, the needed packages are downloaded from the internet.

During the installation your sources.list is created, so you will be donwloading and upgrading your system from an online server, with apt

I agree with Hjalte. Go with the network install - it's easy and fast! You'll also have the latest versions of each file on your comp this way. Good luck! :)

Absolutely. Only get the cd's if you absolutely need them for some reason. Network installation is much more convenient and you don't get stuck with useless old cd's when you decide to upgrade.

If you're not afraid of beta (and alpha) software, try the new debian-installer (http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/), it's much better. It's only 1 CD (110MB, network-install, you could fit it on a keydrive if you wanted). Seriously, it's way easier, especially for someone who isn't used to the normal debian installer.
