which soundsystem is supposed to be the best for debian/linux ?

my XMMS (1.2.9) is currently using OSS input plugin, and there're also ALSA, eSOUND ... so I wonder which one should I choose for the best quality of sound ?

and if anybody needs some audio-related packages, can check here, really good repository
http://www.rarewares.org/debian.html

:)

ps: is there anyone here who are using xmms-musepack plugin, and notice that it plays the mpc files faster than it should ? I encountered this in all the linux distro I tried .. :(

I've used Alsa for quite a while and I can't complain. It's integrated in the 2.6 kernel now so it looks like a safe way to go. But you should subscribe to the linux-audio mailing list ...
