which one?
i've been wanting to mess with debian for a long time, but i'm not sure which iso to dowload from here:http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/we.../i386/iso-dvd/
also is testing etch? thanks. |

Why Debian ... A Sales Pitch Most people are better off getting the netinstal disk. There is a link to the 'testing' one near the end of this post. |
yep, testing == etch, atm. If the dvd images are organized in any way similar to the CD images, it makes sense to download either (1), (1 and 2) or (1, 2 and 3). This is because the most popular programs are stored on the first images (at least that's true for the CDs). Also, once you have installed debian, you can always download the individual packages on a by-need basis.

well i downloaded the netinstall, and burned it to a cd, but when i go to install it, after the installer dectects the cdrom it just hangs there. nothing but the blue installer screen. any suggestions.

It doesn't boot or anything?
You didn't just copy the .iso to the cd, did you? |
sorry i guess i wasn't clear, it boots fine off the cd, and it asks you what country your from and keyboard layout, and detects the cdrom. but after it detects the cdrom and moves to the next thing it just hangs there. so it boots of the cdrom fine.

i also found a debian 3.1 disc that came with a mag and it does the same thing.
|
I dunno. Maybe it's trying to detect a network or some other hardware, but if it fails at that, you should get a message
|
i will just let is sit there longer this time, can't imagine it taking that long though. im using dapper right now which has a simalar install process and it just flys throuh it. thanks for the hlep.
