where is the kernel located on the debian squeeze dvd?

Hi guys, i'm attempting to dual boot my computer with Slackware, Debian and Windows. I've installed Lilo to the mbr from Slackware, i've edited my lilo.conf file so i can boot Debian. When i boot debian though, it says it's boot kernel 2.6.37 which is the slackware kernael it fails to load the modules. I think my problem is in the lilo.conf file in the debian line, "image = /boot/vmlinuz", if i've understood correctly i should put the debian kernals name after that line, i've done as i saw on the internet, but it comes up with, "kernel can not be found" or something similar to that. I think it's looking for it in a slackware directory. Is there a place on the debian dvds (i've all eight) i can get the kernel?

Let's just clarify few things for start.

So, you had dual boot, Slackware and Windows, then you installed Debian, right?

Post the output, as root, of;
Code:
fdisk -l

Yes, i'm currently dual booting Windows7 and Slackware. I've also attempted to dual boot Debian Squeeze 6.01a as well but it doesn't work correctly. It boots to gdm (Think that's what it's called), but i can't do anything. Here's my fdisk output in 16 bit colour.

Well, Debian "squeeze" kernel is 2.6.32-5 and how on earth could it boot to GDM without kernel, or are you saying that Debian boots with 2.6.37?

Anyhow Debian kernel is in the /boot directory - vmlinuz, so is initrd.img. You should install GRUB on the Debian / partition and then update LILO. See here; http://www.control-escape.com/linux/lilo-cfg.html

yes i'm saying debian boots the slackware kernel 2.6.37, instead of the debian one, and because that kernel wasn't meant for debain, the kernel modules were never configured for debian, so once it's booted, you can't do anything. I just want to get debian to boot the intended kernel, 2.6.32. Anyways, thanks mate, i'm going to start over all again, and see if i can do it right this time, with the help from the link you gave me. I'll post back once i've tried.

hey, i opened up the debian dvd1 last night to get the kernel, and there is no /boot directory, are you sure you're not thinking of the drive once installed. I need it off the dvd. Or if i can't get it off there, a link to where i can download the appropriate kernel by its self would be appreciated.

Hi,
I'm not sure where it is located inside the Debian DVD (I don't have a Debian CD/DVD at the moment to check), but you can download it from here; just be sure to pick the kernel image for the architecture you're using.
Anyway, I think your problem is rather related to the lilo configuration. I'm not used to lilo, but you probably have to specify -somewhere in the lilo.conf file-, on which partition is your debian installation (and kernel) located.
