what debian iso should i download?
i'm thinking on trying debian, i searched through their website and i went to the download site and i see there are 5 dvds torrent files?
which one should i download? i mean is debian that heavy that i need 5 dvds to get everything installed?? wt... please help. by the way is there a kde version? i want kde |
No no, you've definitely got it wrong! All you need is the net-install CD for the stable version. Use that to install a basic system, then install everything you need from the internet. :)

You want to download the net install version. It's just the basics and you can download packages you want off the internet. The 32 bit version is at http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...86-netinst.iso. That is all you need to get started. The 5 DVD's hold every package available and no one needs all of that.
As far ask I know they do not have a KDE spin, but you can easily set KDE to be your desktop after installing the needed packages. Good luck! |

If you scroll down the list you will find the full installation CD for kde:
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/5.0.6/i386/iso-cd/ That is Debian stable, which comes with kde3.5, not with kde4. If you want kde4 you need to install Debian testing. The installer of the actual Debian-testing netinstall-iso has got the option to choose an alternate environment (xfce, lxde or kde). After the CD has booted choose: <advanced> and then <alternate desktop environment>. I don't know if the same is valid for the stable installer. You might consider if you want to install Debian testing instead of stable. It is already frozen and will be the next Debian stable. |

You can install kde using the net-install cd.
At the prompt use install tasks="kde-desktop, standard" Or just choose base and standard once that is done you can do aptitude install kde xorg |
