Webcam where to start.......

This is the camera that I want to setup is an 2 year old quickcam express
logitech.c0m/index.cfm/downloads/software/CA/EN,CRID=1795,contentid=6041,OSID=3

I already went to aboutdebian.c0m and I think I might have made some mistakes for an ibm cam, so I thought I would come here

This is the kernel I have 2.4.18-bf2.4

modconf
This will not load: usb-uhci

This is in the system

apt-get install v4l-conf
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
v4l-conf is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

/dev shows video0

I installed apt-get install xawtv but when I run it I get this error

#xawtv -hwscan
This is xawtv-3.91, running on Linux/i686 (2.4.18-bf2.4)
Error: Can't open display:

Additional information: cat /proc/version
