virtualbox additions

I have got a problem with virtualbox. I want to share sth between virtual machine and debian. I know I should install additions to virtualbox. I installed virtualbox-guest-dkms. I thought that is what I need. However when I try set up share directory I get information I need to install additions but I have already did! What I have to do to make it work?

Here are the official instructions for installing guest additions:

Please let us know which steps you've taken so far, which step you're stuck at, and any error messages/output.

As far as I understand I am supposed to mount VBoxGuestAdditions.iso and install this within my virtual machine but I can't find it within my debian...

Start the machine then select "Install guest additions" from the menus. This will mount the cd image in the virtual machine's cd drive (which is part of th e install package, no need for downloading anything).
After that navigate to your cd drive (/media/cdrom or the like or in the graphical interface the cd will show up in the file manager). Open a terminal and launch the relevant executable in it with root rights (it has to have linux and your system type, x86/i386 or 64 in its name).

BTW I think Debian has the vbox drivers built in but im not sure.

What steps exactly have you taken so far, and what method are you using to mount the virtual CD-ROM? Are you trying to do this with a GUI or from the command line?

This tutorial covers how-to-mount-a-CD: http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/doc/debian/ch-disks.html

I managed to solve that. I didn't expect virtualbox to download anything. I wanted to install all required software using aptitute. I hate when software install anything on its own.

Thx for your help.

Aptitude would be more than happy to install the guest additions for you. In fact I'm surprised Debian didn't do that at install time it does for me anyways. In the guest all you have to do is ' aptitude search virtualbox ' select the dkms guest additions and they will be for ever updated.

they weren't. I did that but soon after when I hit install additionals virtualbox asked if it can download sth because it couldn't find the iso.
