/var/tmp/ full of .deb packages

There is a pretty good chunk of space being taken up by .deb packages in my /var/tmp/ folder. Some of them, I know, are no longer installed on my system. Where do they come from? Way more importantly, can I get rid of them?? All of them? Do they disappear when I reboot?

Actually, I'm gonna check that last question now.

Try:
# apt-get clean

next time you want to get rid of something, use 'debfoster', followed by 'apt-get clean'. See sticky at the top of the page on configuration.

I suppose I should have mentioned, but I did already do deborphan, debfoster, and apt-get clean. These all helped me open up space, of course, but they didn't effect the /var/tmp/ files at all, as far as I can tell.
I find very little detailed information about cron-apt, so I am wondering if this is a 'cache' for that, maybe?

Oh yeah, I also rebooted, to see if they got cleaned up, but they didn't.
