You can try dpkg -i --force all xserver-xorg-video-amd_2.7.6.5~20070208-0ubuntu0linutop1_i386.deb

Bad advice from my post above.

Look at the control file

Provides: xserver-xorg-video

On the conflicts of xserver-xorg-core you have xserver-xorg-video

You can try to remove that line before compiling or name it something else.

I am not an expert while building debian packages from source. So guys it would be really great if you can help me out?

Thanks
Looks like you need to remove the -core package which will remove the xserver-xorg and a few of the -input ones as well, the xserver-xorg-input-mouse and kbd looks like you will need to apt-get source them and then build their packages having edited the control file Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.5-1), xserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.1.1-4) to say xserver-xorg-video-amd then its version number. Now this is what think you are going to have to do but this is a little beyond my experience in building packages you might want to go to http://lists.debian.org find the email address for the Debian X mailing list and make a post there on how to proceed.

It worked. All I had to do was to put "xserver-xorg-video-1.0" instead of "xserver-xorg-video" in the debian/control file.

Thank you all you guys for the help. LQ rules!!!!
