This is a follow-up question to a suggestion to use the Knoppix live cd to fix a debian installation that hangs while booting at "starting MTA"
I burned a copy knoppix and booted from the cd. I then maneuvered to /media/hda5/etc/network and edited the interfaces config file like suggested. I went to save the file and received the message that the file was not writable. So, I went back and right clicked on hda5 and there was an option to make it writable, but I still could not save any changes I made to the interfaces file of the debian installation.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, DG

Open a Konsole window (the monitor with a shell on in the taskbar) then type in.
Code:
sudo mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/hda5
export XAUTHORITY=/home/knoppix/.Xauthority
sudo kwrite /mnt/hda5/etc/network/interfaces
