For what thing client OS does it is perfect, limitations come from thin client technology design.
Main positive reason would be the price of a thin client. It can be purchased for under £70, versus full desktop for £200. Low power consumption is another bonus. In a large office environment thin clients are fine. However, lag and hangs can be a big issue in offsite locations if connection is slow.

Now, I've created debian workstations at our company and they are working really excellent.
Even a very good feedback from users.

I'm using Debian Wheezy for workstations and everything is fine. The packages are pretty updated and the system is very stable IMHO.

Good luck.

When I worked for a hospital a few years ago, the IT dept. did have a couple of Fedora workstations for test purposes. We were using Gnome desktop environment. Again, this was for test purposes but AFAIK, it never was rolled out to other depts.
