Using browser-history daemon in Lenny?

I'm trying to understand how to use browser-history, which is a program I d/l'd via synaptic. It seems ancient, but I'd like to get it working. First off, things are telling me to add

browser-history &

to an .xsession or .xinitrc script.
Do we have one of those in Debian Lenny?
I'm using Gnome.

Furthermore, I read this in the man page...
Quote:
Its usage is
very simple, just put the following line in your .xinitrc or your X
start-up script:
browser-history &
And open the file ~/.browser-history/history-log.html and bookmark it.
Does that mean I open ~/.browser-history/history-log.html in iceweasel, bookmark it in iceweasel, and then the daemon will record every site I view through iceweasal? Is it saying I need to bookmark ~/.browser-history/history-log.html in each browser that I desire to keep a log of URLs?

I'm not really understanding how to use this program..
Any help would be appreciated.

If you don't have them you can create them in your home directory and put that command there.

I'm not exactly sure, and I'm not going to install it myself to find out, but from the package description, it looks like it's a kind of monitoring daemon. That means it runs in the background as a separate process and logs all activity that goes in and out of your "netscape" browser(s). So...

1) The "browser-history &" is just a way to have the program start automatically when logging in. The '&' runs the program as a background process. It doesn't have to be put in .xinitrc or such, those are just the traditional (i.e. old) locations for it. You can use gnome's program autostart function instead if you want or even run it manually from a console or run dialog.

2) Obviously the bookmarks are just so you can easily access the browser-history logs. The daemon most probably just automatically monitors all activity to and from the browsers it supports, and writes that data in html form to the file "~/.browser-history/history-log.html". You can then open up this file any time you want to see your browser history. This certainly has nothing to do with what programs are being monitored, since all the bookmark does is let you view the html file. You just need a bookmark in all the programs you use so you can view the same file from anywhere.

Frankly, I don't see what the need for this program is now. The description says it's for overcoming an old netscape bug, when it had no persistent history. But all modern mozilla-based browsers do store persistent histories now, so this program is mostly redundant. I suppose it might be good if you want to have all your activity from several profiles and/or browsers all stored in one place, however.

That's the idea I'm trying to accomplish.
Anyone know if this thing works with contemporary browsers, such as iceweasal or konqueror?
