Slackware 9.1 working

Hey, was browsing through this thread and saw that someone was curious about the Slackware 9.1 usb mouse config. I got mine working here is the XF86Config:

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Mouse0"
        Driver "mouse"
        Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
        Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option "ZAxis Mapping" "4 5"
EndSection
For some reason with my Slackware install the default keyboard and mouse are set with a 1. For example the default Section created for my laptop's touchpad was:

Code:
Section "InputDevice"

        Identifier "Mouse1"
        Driver "mouse"
        Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
        Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"

EndSection
so you kinda have to adjust accordingly
I also found while messing with this a graphical tool for all of this called xf86cfg. You can run it from the command line with no options and it will generate your XF86Config file.

hope this helps

Still having trouble

Ok, I've been all over the place trying to get this right. It worked under knoppix so I know it should work. I've read a million pages about modules and XF86Config-4. Here's what I've got.

I have a dell inspiron 1100

My mouse is a Targus USB wheel mouse.

I am running debian using the nightly build of TC1 from 6/15.

I'm running the 2.6.6-1-686 kernel

Discover did not find my USB ports so I used kudzu which found and configured them. usbview now sees them.

Hotplug is installed and running.

The mouse lights up but doesn't control the cursor.

When I cat /dev/psaux, /dev/input/mice and /dev/input/mouse0 I get nothing from the usb mouse but all respond to the touchpad.

lsmod shows mousedev, psmouse, usbmouse, ehci_hcd, uhci_hcd, and usbcore all running.

I read about hid but modprobe hid returns - FATAL: Module hid not found

mdetect -nxv finds two devices /dev/psaux and /dev/input/mouse0 again when I cat those only the touchpad does anything.

My XF86Config-4 file contains:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "XFree86 Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "USB Mouse"
UnputDevice "Configured Mouse"
EndSection
<skip>
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
End Section

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "USB Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mouse0"
EndSection

So essentially I'm lost. I am missing something here but have no idea what it is. Any help would really be appreciated.

Well I have Debian Sid installed but not using it now, but I am using Xandros, Debian based, and try changing your Option Device to /dev/input/mice. See if that helps.

When I'm using Sid I will post what my XF86Config-4.

Did you have Debian already installed and configured for a ps/2 mouse and then added the usb mouse? I tried that and never did get the usb mouse working. I only got it working by doing a new installed using the Testing Installer-4 ISO. Not to say it can't be done!

This is a new install. Just done last night. The USB mouse was plugged in during the install. I tried /dev/input/mice and that's not working either. I have a feeling it's not XF86Config-4 but I may be wrong.

Ok, my apologies. Apparently my hardware went bad recently and I didn't know it. Makes me feel better knowing it was that and not something I was doing wrong. Fixed that and everything works great. Again my apologies.
