USB-dvd kills Debian

Strange thing happens:
I'm running Debian sarge on an Intel P4 2.4 GHz 512 RAM.
When I got an external USB-dvd-burner, Debian won't boot!
Message is pretty long, here are what I believe are important parts:

That 'kblockd' also appeared earlier, I believe it's causing the crash.
Keyboard works however (lights on/off)

If I unplug USB-dvd Debian boots normally. I can then plugin and use the USB-dvdburner...

Hmmm...
The crash happens when I have 2 USB-drives connected at bootup, DVD-burner + USB-harddrive. Unplugging either of them and Debian boots normally.

Any ideas?

Once the system has booted successfully without the DVD-burner attached, when you plug the burner in, does the system recognise it and load the correct modules for it ?If so, what module is it loading? Try "tail -f /var/log/messages" when plugging the burner in with the system running to view the system logs as t his happens. It may be it's recognising it as a USB mass storage device which the USB hard drive may be recognised as, so causing confusion. Just a starter to get things going!

Good idea...
...but now it works???
Every day in three weeks it crashed and when I finally get suggestions how to tackle it - it just works!
Pretty irritating... :)
You might very well be right though, I did start once without USB-harddrive connected. Maybe system now recognized DVD-burner correctly, and differs between my USB-devices.

Well, glad it's up and running at least. I still would have thought the system would have been able to modprobe the required module during boot, just wanted to if it would work with the system running and so manually force that module to load during boot.

But, at least it's going now, so have fun! Oh for the joys of Linux ;-)
