:URGENT":problem installing debian from a SATA DVD drive


I was trying to install etch from a DVD.My DVD drive is a SATA drive.The installation failed at detecting and mounting CD-ROM step the 3rd step in the installation process.Can any one please help me?

You can try the boot option linux libata.atapi_enabled=1.

sorry to say.it did not work.but i got it installed from a PATA drive.THe installation was successfull.But after the reboot i was not able to boot in to the GUI.It says "failed confugiring X server.do you want debug it".What should i do?

You say the installation was successful. Do you mean you chose the option "Desktop Environment" during the stage called "software select and install" or something similar? If you're only logging in command line, then you'll have to install the GUI--GNOME or KDE environment--from the CLI.

I believe this will install everything that GNOME should have.
If you want KDE, then
