Upgrading kernel
I've got a few dev servers running debian sarge with the 2.4 kernel. I'd like to upgrade them to the 2.6 kernel but wanted to confirm some things before I go ahead with it.
I've seen the sticky thread about upgrading the kernel. The dev servers that I have are all headless and are all accessed via SSH.
Because of this do I only need to go up to and do step 4 in the sticky thread? I don't believe I'll need to recompile the kernel at any stage...
Also, the kernels that are running currently are of the i386 variety. The oldest dev server I have is a p2 266 so would it be ok to install the i686 kernel on these machines?
Thanks.
