Well that blows that theory!.
Looks like repo's right with dns.
Here's what i get:

Code:
ade@Pc1:~$ nslookup http.us.debian.org
Server: 212.23.3.100
Address:	212.23.3.100#53

Non-authoritative answer:
http.us.debian.org	canonical name = ftp.us.debian.org.
Name:	ftp.us.debian.org
Address: 128.30.2.36
Name:	ftp.us.debian.org
Address: 149.20.20.135
Name:	ftp.us.debian.org
Address: 204.152.191.39
Name:	ftp.us.debian.org
Address: 35.9.37.225
Name:	ftp.us.debian.org
Address: 64.50.236.52
Just wondered whether it was a problem with that specific server.
Hence the suggestion of trying another.
Now debian-multimedia is also not working.....

Well I seem to have some wierdness going on myself since my update (testing) this morning - just the few from the last day or so plus the xorg stuff I'd been saving for a quiet Sunday morning. Xorg went fine but somehow I've lost contact with some web pages. Tried in Iceweasel, Opera, Midori & Google browsers with sketchy results. Ipv6 is off globally and in IW.
Problem seems to be hanging on transmission from google-analytics.
Anybody else seeing this?

Lets start over

What is the output from
Code:
nslookup www.debian-multimedia.org
cat /etc/resolv.conf
Try to use open dns
in /etc/resolv.conf
replace the existing name servers with
Quote:
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220
Try again
Code:
nslookup www.debian-multimedia.org

Did you disabled ipv6 ?

I also noticed a hang on google-analytics as mentioned before. I also see that firefox was using a proxy from the old ISP. Changed that to auto detect.

If it doesn't work, you can replace
ftp.us.debian.org and www.debian-multimedia.org
with the real IP
untill there is a solution.

Yes, I did disable ipv6. Interesting, the issue is fixed if I go to "System", "Administration", "Network", and enter OpenDNS servers. This is broken after a reboot. I made the suggested changes and the issue still persists. However, with this "workaround" apt-get update works. "$http_proxy" gives no output.

Noticed the following:

Quote:
sudo: unable to resolve host soulcage
dittmerm@soulcage:~$
I also noticed that the "workaround" doesn't last long. (Less then an hour before the setting revert)

I'm tempted to go back to stable and use backports. Should have done that in the first place.

I ended up reinstalling Lenny. I started noticing other strange things such as applications not opening anymore. Thanks for the help!
