upgrade kernel via synaptic

ugrading from kernel-image-2.6.12-3-multimedia-386 to kernel-image-2.6.12-3-multimedia-686-smp in so that i can enable my p4 hypertheading CPU.

i tried installing this through synaptic and i don't think anything
changed. i'm trying to find some resources to explain what the next
step is. i would like to have this option in my grub menu if possible.
could somebody lead me to a answer and/or clue.

thanks
tom

in general, package mangager blacklist kernel upgrades. what you have to do is to find the apt-get configuration file and take out kernel image from the black list. you then also have to update grub, if apt doesnt do it for you, not sure that it does.
