There are some things I miss and one of them is knowing the reasons for an update.
In Mandrake's update tool you get a short description of the reason for the update and a terse changelog. I've not found anything similar in Debian. Is there one?

If you are using apt then install apt-listchanges and you will get to see the change logs when updating. I believe it works with aptitude as well and while your at it you may want to install apt-listbugs to check the bug reports.
