Update to Acrobat 7.0 held back by Synaptic
 

Strange stuff going on with acroread. There are two files:
acroread-plugin and acroread-pluginS (I made it a 'cap S' so you would
notice it.)

The original acroread 7.0 was sarge0.0. New one is sarge0.1. It won't
install (held back) via Synaptic. And to complicate matters there is also:
mozilla-acroread sarge0.1.

Debain apt is supposed to be easy but I'm confused as hell. Fortunately my
current 7.0 works fine. What am I missing about this upgrade.... or was the
package badly made? Why are there TWO 'plugin' files... one with 'S" and
one without?

How do I get this sarge0.1 update without breaking something?

Its held back because installing it may affect other packages e.g. overwriting their files. A possible solution is to do "apt-get dist-upgrade".

The repositories are really screwed up now. I just did a reload with Synaptic and we now have replacement for:

mozilla-acroread 7.0-0sarge0.1

called

mozilla-acroread 7.0-0sarge0.2

And guess what it depends on boys and girls? Yes, you're right: acroread 7.0-0sarge0.2

But wait. There's more. There is no 'sarge0.2' acroread in the repository.

So that means if you install sarge0.1 there is a good chance your plugin for Firefox won't work. You can have the acroread-pluginS (my cap) for the javascript 'call home' but not a mozilla plugin.

I figure this will get sorted out sometime today or tomorrow... or maybe not.

Maybe you'd be better off, installing from the tar.gz file if you are having problems with apt-get.
