I just started using Debian about a week ago. I know that when using Gnome there is an update notice that tells you when there are updates for your system. Is this notice there in KDE? I have installed Adept and the packages that go with it and thought there was supposed to be a tray icon for the updates but I can't seem to find it.
Also, I am thinking about installing it on an Acer laptop. It has the Broadcom 4318 chipset that seems to give some Linux distros trouble trying to get the wireless working. Has anyone had experience with this chipset using Debian?
There is a system tray icon for KDE for package updates.
However, it only shows up for a few seconds after you start your KDE session (for me, it's a little, green circle). It just checks if there are any packages available for upgrade, and if there aren't, it just kills itself.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of those little update watchers. About once a week I will go into a terminal and run (as root):
But at this point, carousing the Networking > Wireless Networking section of this forum is more than likely to give you the answers you need - I know I have seen countless threads with "Broadcom" in the title string.
