i installed transmission BT client in debian etch. but there seems to be no menu entry for it.
right now i am using it thru shell.
when i try to add a new entry thru Alcarte, it just hangs.!
Hmm... You can start it from the command line though? You've tried the menu gui and specified the correct path name? That should roll with no problem. Can you try to add another program that you've verified works and see if you can replicate the "hang" through alacarte?
