Ubuntu boot through DOS with kernel image
Hello,
Since I didn't saw a specific Ububtu forum, and Ubuntu is Debian-based, I need some help here. I am about to install Ububtu 4.10, but I want to know, if I dont install GRUB or LILO, can I boot Ubuntu using 'loadlin.exe' with a kernel 2.6.* image and ramdisk image (before Ubuntu i had Slackware, and this worked without problems)? In Slackware in the install cd there are lots of precompiled kernel images, but I didn't find many on the Ubuntu disk, I saw 'vmlinuz' in a few directories, but I don't know exactly which would be useful. Can someone help me with this? |
I personally think that with 'loadlin.exe' it would work, but since I don't have the kernel image, will I be able to copy it to my fat32 partition after I have installed it and have not installed GRUB or LILO? I mean, just after the installation is complete, without rebooting and selecting not to install a loader, just go to /boot and copy vmlinuz and copy it to my fat32 partiotion.

So can't anyone help me?:(
