Two Little Important Questions!

first, i want to install debian on my laptop, but i have had this problem with the stable version:

- will the sarge version of debian install the graphic environment correctly? because i never managed to install it with trhe stable version! i don't know why.

- exactly how many cds does it take for a normal installation of debian? (again, the sarge version). when i look in the download sites there are like more than 10 cds!

If you don't know why, we certainly don't know why. More details would help.

You can do a net install with one CD.

if you look at my sig you will see a very helpful walkthrough. when you have tried to install X are you sure that it is there???
my suggestion is to read the article from osnews and makesure you did everything for the min install. then you can go to the article that helps you upgrade your kernel. that is a good thing since woody rc2 only has 2.4.23 version of the kernel.

what i mean is, after i installed everything, there was never any graphical environment everytime i booted the computer. only text environment, although i always chose X during installation.

and the computer where i want to install the OS does not have internet connection. that's why i need to know how many cds i have to download.

ok, so what happens when you type "startx"?

The first 3 cd's are good enough for almost anything, so if you're not sure go with those.
