trying to set up sendmail but unable

hey guys. I am trying to apt-get install sendmail but I get this message: Package sendmail is not available, but is referred to by another package.

I cant figure out what I need to do... do I have to install something else first or what?

I installed mail server upon Debain installation. When I type 'which sendmail' it tells me '/usr/sbin/sendmail' so its their but not installed or what?

I have searched google but I dont find the answer I need.
