Trying to make a Bluetooth mouse work / Lenny

Whilst using a previous installation of Debian (now deleted, exact details not known) I had a working Bluetooth mouse. With a fresh installation, which currently uses Bluetooth 3.36-3, I can get the computer to see the mouse but it refuses to connect, saying Nautilus cannot cope with obex locations.

I assume something is broken in the current version, and have tried to install 3.24 or 3.26 because I estimate these to have been current about the time of the previous (working) installation. Also, if I understand correctly, some postings in similar threads suggest that these versions are less buggy.

However, if I download 3.24, 3.26, bluez x.xx or whatever and try to install them, in each instance I find I cannot configure because I have no suitable c compiler in $PATH.

On checking PATH, I find two different versions, one for mere mortals and another for root. Neither contains /usr/lib (IIRC) which is where gcc is located. I have been tempted to add /usr/lib to the PATH variable to let the configure routine see gcc, but suspect the people who put Debian together have set PATH like this to stop me messing it up.

Should I therefore desist, and wait for a later version of bluetooth to fix the problem? Or is there no problem other than my inability to find and/or make the appropriate settings?

Advice would be appreciated.

Hmmmm, and from the command line?

I connect my bluetooth mouse with a simple
Code:
hidd --connect ${mac_address}
Even if this doesn't work, you might get a more useful error message.

Just tried your suggestion. The computer waits indefinitely and if stopped with ctrl-C comes up with the line

obexftp -b obex://[00:07:61:CF:B8:11}/

this being the code for this mouse: but no response to moving or clicking.

Thanks for the suggestion.
