trouble upgrade udev_0.071-1_i386.deb

hello:
i have a problem upgrading like that
--------------------------------------------------------
debian:/var/cache/apt/archives# apt-get upgrade
reading list of packets... Done
creating a tree of dependencies... Done
maybe you want to execute `apt-get -f install' to fix.
the next packets have unfulfilled dependencies:
udev: Depends: hotplug (>= 0.0.20040329-17)
E: unfulfilled dependencies. try with -f.
--------------so i try with -f
prepairing to reemplaze udev 0.056-3 (using .../archives/udev_0.071-1_i386.deb) ...
ln: «/etc/udev/rules.d/z55_hotplug.rules»: the file still exists
dpkg: error procesing /var/cache/apt/archives/udev_0.071-1_i386.deb (--unpack):
the subprocess pre-installation script returned source error output. error 1
were found the next errors processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/udev_0.071-1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
------------so i tried dpkg -i --force-overwrite
debian:/var/cache/apt/archives# dpkg -i --force-overwrite udev_0.071-1_i386.deb
(reading list of datos ...
67809 files and directories actually installed.)
prepairing to replaze udev 0.056-3 (using udev_0.071-1_i386.deb) ...
ln: «/etc/udev/rules.d/z55_hotplug.rules»: the file exists
dpkg: error to process udev_0.071-1_i386.deb (--install):
the subprocess pre-installation script returned error in output.error 1
encuntered errors to process:
udev_0.071-1_i386.deb
-------------------------------------
do you know how to resolve the trouble? thx

What version of the Kernel are you using? Newer versions of udev require certain minimal kernel builds.

same problem

I am having the same problem. I am going to try renaming that file it is complaining about existing. Will let you know...
Ok back now, seems that when I renamed the offending files, it still came back with an error about the udev needing a 2.6.12 or greater kernel. So i told it to install linux-image-2.6.14-1-686
It seems to be working...(slow connection here at the office)
uh-oh
same problem..
but looks like the kernel might have installed... will try a reboot now..
