totem is giving me trouble.

Totem won't start up for me. I had been using the unstable version (without realizing it) with no sound yesterday because i was lazy and didn't want to install my soundcard at the time. I installed it today, got sound setup, and still no sound from totem. I then figured that it was likely just a problem with the unstable version and installed the stable version.

I tried to run it, and it gave me this:
Code:
# totem
libhal.c 2282 : Error sending msg: Service "org.freedesktop.Hal" does not exist

** (totem:8333): WARNING **: Couldn't find themed icon for "panel-screenshot"

(totem:8333): gnome-vfs-modules-WARNING **: Could not initialize inotify
And I was utterly baffeled. What did I do wrong? It seems to be asking for several things at once.
