Angry Debian Testing Net-Install failure

Hi all,

I had Debian Sarge installed on my computer and due to some error messages under Gnome after doing an apt-get dist-upgrade wanted to install the newest testing version.

I did as follows:

- Burn the ISO-net install from the net, copy it with k3b (cheking md5-sum).

- After that i erased with the CD the old "/" partition of the old linux system, maked with the free space an ext3 partition and then i've tried to install...

The problem is, that after 100% of the basicsystem is installed i got an error message:

Quote:
Unable to install initrd-tools

an erro was returned while trying to install the initrd-tools package onto the target system.

check /var/log/syslog for more info....

The Grub loader also didn't work anymore(Error15), so i could not boot the windows partition.

After trying to reinstall GRUB/LILO from the net-install CD without effort (error, could not be installed) i installed some bootloader on the mbr from which i can now boot, at least windows.

Has anyone got an idea what the problem may be? I didn't delete my older /home partition, but I'm not sure that can be the source of the problem.

I would be gratefull for any tips, I can't work under windows!!! :-(

Thanks in advice!

Some info...

I've tried to install debian-31r0a-i386-netinst.iso and it seems to work, without making any trouble, but it would be great if i would manage to make a clean install from the start of the testing version.

Could it be, that the actual testing iso on the server is corrupted? Otherwise i do not understand why it cant be installed, but the stable can...

Someone knows how to correct this issue?

Well I now got Debian Testing installed using the Business CD instead of the Net-ISO. That seemed to be corrupted.

My Kernel is now 2.6.12-1-686

Now I'm getting a couple of problems that I had not got having Debian Sarge installed:

- Instead of OSS Alsa has been installed and my cound-card does not get auto-detected

- For some strange reason I cannot download the nvidia-common pakages using apt-get install nvidia-common. apt does only find "nvtv - tool to control TV chips on NVidia cards under Linux" making "apt-cache search nvidia"

- The silliest problem is that the old /home partition has not been autom. set to be such. Should I had select it when the partitions had to be formated/created? I was afraid of loosing the data on it, so I didnt touch it.
Can I modify some config.file so that my /home is just the older one (on the other partition)?

Hope someone can help me with these...

That was a problem of the sources.list not checking for non-free packages, now it works:
http://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aache.../Linux/debian/ etch main non-free
