System sounds- Ubuntu yes, Debian no.

Hi All,

Just installed Lenny last week. All sound works but system event sounds. In the sound panel System/Preferences/Sound, I can test the system sounds and they give me a half-hearted murmur. When I try say, opening an app or closing a window, I get nothing. CDs play, logout sound is fine. In Ubuntu, all sound worked out of the box, including system event sounds.
I've installed sox, sound-icons and gnome-audio. I've used alsa-mixer to check all channel volumes, rebooted but yet nothing. I've probed my sound card with alsaconf too.
lspci shows:

Multimedia audio controller: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] (rev 01)

This is the same thing that Ubuntu was pulling up. Am I missing something?
