system hot swap from hda3 to hdc3
hi. i'm having somewhere a fully unmanaged remote root box with debian testing on it. this box has 2 hard drives in it. partitioned like:
/dev/hda
|hda1 /boot reiserfs
|hda2 none swap
|hda3 / reiserfs
/dev/hdc
|hdc3 unused ext3
partition /hda3 is too big for my needs and i need to resize for freeing space for use with another things. locally i have nobody whos able to boot temporary from floppy, cdrom or other media so that i could resize using parted and then restart. the guys over there are just able to (re-)setup my base. so i'm asking me, is it possible to swap under the running system the complete system from /hda2 to /hdc3? then modifying lilo to boot from /hdc3, resizing /hda3 and after done job, swapping the system back from /hdc3 to resized partition /hda3? i think, with the power of linux and all the tools available there it should be possible. all i need, is a good plan and i'm not new to linux but also not really an expert. every good idea is welcome and i hope... somebody got one for me. :-)
big thanks,
- jim
ps: i have an backup of my system and sorry for my bad english, i'm a german. ;o)
